Why Repairing Leaks is so Important

We’re always stressing the importance of knowing how to detect leaks so that you can have them repaired as soon as possible. Here is just a short reminder as to why repairing leaks in your homes plumbing is so important and also why it is important to have a professional repair the leak or approve any DIY repairs.

Supply lines carry water at pressures ranging from 45 to 65 psi. A neglected leak in your supply line — or an DIY repair that doesn’t hold up — can cause a major rupture and potentially pour gallons of water into your home. To fix an isolated leak on copper pipe, a coupling can be slid over the leak and then solder can be applied with a propane torch sealing it. Once the water has been turned back on the plumber will check to see if there is still any detection of a leak.

In some cases entire pipes will need to be replaced if the leak cannot be repaired. A qualified plumber has the specialized tools and expertise to determine when to repair and when to replace an entire span of pipe.
