DIY Drain Cleaner: The Green Way
Most fixes in your house can be broken down into 3 categories: the shortcut, the sure thing and the green way. Here is a quick way to make your own drain cleaner, the green way.
What You Will Need
• 500 mL Blue Drano
• Yellow Dye
Instructions
Mix the drano into a bowl. A whisk works well for this. Then add two drops of the yellow dye and whisk again. Be careful, as this will be some whisky business. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
If you have completed any of those steps, I am sorry. That was a joke. I like taking whisks when I write blogs.
Here is the actual way to create an eco-friendly, all natural drain cleaner:
Ingredients
• 1/2 cup of baking soda
• 1 cup of white vinegar
• 4 cups of boiling water
Directions
1. Send the 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain to begin the initial fight. These troops will attach and stick to all that enemy scum invading your pipes. Using a funnel can help ease the baking soda down the drain.
2. It’s now time for the attack. Pour the cup of vinegar down the drain and watch the explosions fizz for about 5 to 10 minutes. Your troops are OP (Overpowered) and the intruders will not stand a chance. Document this moment as it may one day become a national holiday. This is a big day for you.
3. Send in the final barrage. By pouring down the 4 cups of boiling water you are clearing out the battlefield. The war is over. It’s time to rest.
Now that you have completed this cleaning, remember that prevention is truly the best way of maintaining clear drains. By purchasing a drain basket or screen, you can effectively catch hair, food scraps, etc. before it gets down. Magic! :) This will effectively help you to create peace in your pipes, not war. Thanks for tuning in!
