Why Is My Toilet Tank Not Filling Up With Water?

Why-Is-My-Toilet-Not-Filling-Up-With-Water

Remember those times in school when your teacher would say, “Now class, pay attention to other students’ questions because you may just be wondering it yourself.” Welp, this is one of those moments. You may not need to know this answer now, but you might as well read on just in case you do. Or just come back to it, because unlike a teacher’s answer, a blog will always be there. Wow, blogs are powerful beasts. Anyways, let’s get this blog on the road. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty. ;)

Ball Readjustment

This is the bathroom, we are allowed to talk about ball readjustment–specifically float ball readjustment. The float ball is a ball that floats in the tank. Betcha couldn’t have figured that one out! If you still are unsure, check out the toilet diagram at the bottom of the page. Aren’t you glad I’m here to help you with the difficult moments of life? Anyways, give the float arm a slight bend upwards–as over time the float ball could lower and cause your tank to not fill up properly. If you don’t have a float ball, check out this article.

Fill Valve Victorious Fix

The fill valve should be located on the left side of the tank. On the fill valve, you should find an adjustment screw. If you need more water to fill in, turn the screw clockwise. If you have a leaky tank and need less water, yep, you guessed it: stick a straw and there and drink a bit after you flush. Or turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise.

If there is no adjustment screw, your system may be using adjusted cylinders. In which case, locate the fill valve and pinch the float clip and slide it up to let in more water or down to let in less water. You’re welcome.

Bad Trip

Man these titles can be misleading. Not sure how that keeps happening. I’m not talking about the 1960s or a vacation with your Auntie Melba-toast. I’m talking about a bad trip assembly. There’s not an easy fix for a bad trip assembly–if it looks worn out, bent or broken, you’ll have to purchase a new one and replace it. For the sake of you having to make a bad trip to the hardware store, let’s hope it’s not this option.

Low Water Pressure

If low water pressure is the reason your tank isn’t filling up properly, then it’s time you give him a call. Yup, Mario. He’s a plumbing master. Or if you want to call someone real, that won’t just jump on goombas and eat your lasagna, you can call us. The choice is yours.
