How To Remove And Prevent Rust Stains In Your Toilet
Stains on your toilet–that’s a taboo topic, right there. But we want to talk about it with you to help avoid the embarrassment with houseguests and robbers alike. I mean, if duty calls for a thief in your house, an unstained toilet will be more alluring and then maybe you’ll have the chance to catch him, T-Rex style.
Note: We don’t recommend eating any unsuspecting deuce-dropping desperados. Perhaps just cuff them and call the police. And then read one of our blogs while you wait for the coppers to show up. Speaking of blogs, let’s move on with this one!
Rust Prevention
The best way to deal with any issue is preventatively because then you don’t have to fight against it at its full strength. Preventative care is like a 5-on-3 powerplay, if you don’t score, something went horribly wrong. In order to prevent rust from building up in your toilet bowl, clean your toilet regularly, install a water softener or iron filter, and, if applicable, upgrade your home plumbing. Many old homes with iron pipes may have rust deposits that will continually pump rust into your plumbing.
Lemon Juice
When life gives you lemons, clean the rusty stains from your toilet. Then, make lemonade. Not from the rusty toilet lemon water, use some of the leftover lemons please. Why lemon juice you ask? The high levels of acid fight grime and dirt better than Thor vs. an Animaniac.
Vinegar
Similar to lemon juice, what we love about vinegar is that is a strong, natural cleaner and a great alternative to harsh chemical cleaners. As well, there’s a good chance it’s already chilling in your pantry. How dang convenient is that? For a twist, throw some baking soda in to make a paste that’ll defeat those tough to remove stains.
Pumice Stick
Be wary of using a pumice stick as reports have been made that they have completely removed the protective coating on the toilet. From then on, the only way to remove stains is through bleach. Therefore, test this technique on a small area to see if your toilet can take it. As well, only use it as a last-ditch effort. That’s why we’ve listed it last. ;)
